A private family of five based in Austin, Texas, is looking to hire an accomplished Private Chef to take charge of their daily culinary needs and deliver consistently high-quality meals tailored to their lifestyle and preferences.

This full-time, live-out position offers an opportunity for an experienced chef to manage all aspects of the household kitchen, including menu development, ingredient sourcing, grocery shopping, food preparation, and dinner service. The successful candidate will combine strong culinary expertise with excellent organisation and the ability to work independently in a private residence.

As the family observes kosher dietary practices, a thorough understanding of kosher food preparation and kitchen protocols is essential. The cuisine will focus on fresh, seasonal, organic, and locally sourced ingredients, with menus inspired by Mediterranean, Israeli, and Asian cooking.

One family member also follows specific nutritional guidelines, requiring individually tailored, nutrient-rich meals that are anti-inflammatory, low in glucose impact, and high in fibre. The chef should be confident balancing these requirements with flavour, variety, and presentation.

The ideal candidate is a resourceful, health-conscious culinary professional who values discretion, takes pride in creating nourishing food, and enjoys building a long-term working relationship with a private family.

Responsibilities

Take full ownership of the household’s culinary operations, from planning menus to completing the daily kitchen reset.
Prepare kosher dinners for five family members, typically comprising a starter, main course, and suitable side dishes.
Develop creative and varied menus featuring Mediterranean, Israeli, and Asian influences.
Prepare bespoke, nutrient-dense meals for one family member in accordance with anti-inflammatory, low-glucose, and high-fibre dietary requirements.
Organise and prepare school lunches for the children when required.
Source and purchase fresh, high-quality ingredients, prioritising seasonal, organic, and locally produced options.
Maintain grocery lists, monitor pantry stock, and ensure essential kitchen supplies are replenished.
Track purchases, retain receipts, and comply with the family’s expense-reporting procedures.
Keep all kitchen surfaces, work areas, and equipment clean, hygienic, and properly organised.
Complete a thorough kitchen clean-down following meal preparation and dinner service.
Apply appropriate food safety, storage, labelling, and waste-reduction practices.
Maintain kitchen appliances and equipment, reporting faults or servicing requirements promptly.
Adjust menus to reflect the family’s preferences, seasonal availability, and changing schedules.
Cater for visiting guests, intimate dinner parties, Shabbat meals, and Jewish holiday celebrations as requested.
Collaborate professionally with other household staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
Protect the family’s privacy and maintain the highest standards of discretion and service.

Job Requirements

At least five years of professional culinary experience, including experience as a private or personal chef in a household.
Comprehensive knowledge of kosher dietary laws, ingredient restrictions, and appropriate food preparation practices.
Demonstrated experience creating nutritious, health-focused meals tailored to individual dietary needs.
Ability to manage multiple menus and dietary requirements while maintaining consistent quality, timing, and presentation.
Strong skills in menu planning, ingredient sourcing, grocery budgeting, and kitchen management.
Comfortable working autonomously and taking responsibility for the entire kitchen operation.
Currently based in Austin, Texas, with a valid driver’s licence and reliable personal transportation.
Current food safety certification.
Excellent communication, time-management, and organisational skills.
Flexible and capable of adapting to last-minute requests or changes in the family’s schedule.
Willingness to undergo a background check and provide verifiable professional references.
A genuine passion for fresh, wholesome cooking and a proactive approach to household service.
A professional, trustworthy, and discreet manner appropriate to a private family environment.

Working Conditions

Position: Private Chef
