A private family living in a luxury residence on Manhattan’s Upper East Side is seeking an accomplished and highly organised Housekeeper & House Assistant to take responsibility for the daily upkeep of their home while supporting its smooth operation.

This full-time, permanent position combines high-level housekeeping with practical household assistance. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining immaculate interiors, caring for fine furnishings and clothing, keeping storage areas organised, coordinating household services, and managing everyday errands and supplies.

The family is looking for someone who takes ownership of their responsibilities, works efficiently without constant supervision, and understands the standards expected in a high-end private residence. Excellent attention to detail, discretion, and the ability to anticipate household needs are essential.

The household also has a dog, so applicants must be genuinely comfortable around animals and willing to assist with daily care. When the family travels, the housekeeper will be expected to provide additional supervision and care for the dog, potentially including overnight stays or adjusted working hours by prior agreement.

Responsibilities

Housekeeping and Interior Care

Take responsibility for the overall cleanliness and presentation of the residence, including bedrooms, bathrooms, living areas, and other household spaces.
Perform regular cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and detailed attention to frequently used surfaces.
Maintain luxury interiors and furnishings using appropriate care techniques for marble, hardwood, glass, bespoke cabinetry, premium fixtures, and other delicate finishes.
Oversee the complete laundry process, including sorting, washing, drying, ironing, steaming, and folding everyday clothing and delicate garments.
Maintain high standards of linen care, wardrobe organisation, and the presentation of bedrooms.
Keep closets, cupboards, and storage areas orderly, with seasonal clothing and belongings rotated as required.
Organise the pantry and ensure household items are stored neatly and remain accessible.

Household Assistance and Daily Operations

Welcome contractors, maintenance professionals, delivery teams, and other service providers into the residence.
Coordinate access to the property and supervise work on-site, reporting any issues or incomplete tasks to the family.
Run local errands, including collecting and dropping off dry cleaning, purchasing groceries, and sourcing household items.
Receive, sort, and organise incoming mail, parcels, and deliveries.
Monitor stocks of cleaning products, toiletries, pantry staples, and other household essentials.
Maintain an inventory of supplies and arrange replenishment before items run out.
Handle daily rubbish removal and recycling in accordance with New York City sanitation requirements.
Communicate with the family regarding household needs, appointments, deliveries, and outstanding tasks by email, text, or other agreed channels.

Dog Care and Household Pet Support

Provide routine care for the family dog during working hours, including feeding as instructed and ensuring fresh water is always available.
Keep the dog’s designated areas, bedding, and accessories clean and in good condition.
Monitor pet supplies and notify the family when food or other essentials need replenishing.
Provide appropriate supervision and care for the dog when the family is travelling or away from the residence.
Accommodate occasional overnight pet care or alternative schedules when agreed in advance with the family.

Job Requirements

At least three to five years of professional experience in housekeeping and household assistance, ideally within luxury private residences or high-net-worth households.
Excellent practical knowledge of premium interior care, fine garment handling, laundry, ironing, and household organisation.
A methodical approach to cleaning, with consistently high standards and strong attention to detail.
Genuine affection for dogs and confidence in handling routine pet care responsibilities.
Able to manage daily duties independently, prioritise tasks, and anticipate the family’s needs.
Discreet, trustworthy, punctual, and respectful of personal privacy and confidentiality.
Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
Comfortable using email, text messaging, and digital communication tools for household coordination.
Capable of arranging service appointments, liaising with contractors, and managing routine errands.
Flexible and willing to adjust working arrangements when the family’s needs change, including agreed pet care during travel.

Previous experience supporting a busy private household in New York City would be advantageous.
