Job Description

A lovely family of four based in Armonk, New York is looking to hire an experienced and dependable Housekeeper / Family Assistant to become a valued long-term member of their household.

The family includes two parents and their two school-aged children, aged 9 and 12. They are seeking a professional who can confidently oversee the day-to-day organisation of the home while providing reliable support with school runs, errands, meal preparation, and household management.

This role is best suited to a mature, proactive individual who enjoys creating order, takes pride in maintaining a well-run household, and values building a lasting relationship with the family.

Responsibilities

Housekeeping & Household Organisation

  • Maintain the home to a consistently high standard of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Manage daily tidying and light housekeeping duties throughout the residence.
  • Clean kitchen surfaces, load and unload the dishwasher, wash cookware, and maintain small household appliances.
  • Handle recycling, rubbish removal, light dusting, and general household upkeep.
  • Work alongside the family’s bi-weekly deep-cleaning service by ensuring the property remains organised between visits.

Laundry & Linen Care

  • Complete the family’s full laundry routine, including washing, folding, ironing, and putting clothing away.
  • Change and launder bed linens and towels regularly.
  • Make beds and maintain wardrobes and storage areas in an orderly condition.

Child Transportation & Family Support

  • Safely drive the children to and from school, extracurricular activities, sports, and appointments.
  • Provide occasional transportation support for the parents when needed.
  • Maintain a calm, respectful, and positive relationship with the children.

Shopping & Household Errands

  • Prepare weekly grocery lists and complete household shopping.
  • Organise pantry supplies and maintain household inventory.
  • Handle errands such as dry-cleaning drop-offs, package collection, and other day-to-day tasks.
  • Coordinate routine vehicle servicing, maintenance appointments, and car washes.

Meal Preparation

  • Prepare healthy family meals, children’s snacks, and simple daily menus as required.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Experienced in a similar Housekeeper, Family Assistant, or private household support role.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
  • Professional, dependable, and able to work independently.
  • A confident problem-solver with a proactive attitude.
  • Warm and approachable while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Comfortable working in a family-oriented environment and interacting with school-aged children.
  • A safe and confident driver with a valid licence.

Working Schedule

This is a full-time live-out position of approximately 45 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

Working hours adjust throughout the year to accommodate the children’s schedules:

School Year (September–May)

  • Typically 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM or 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Summer (June–August)

  • Typically 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Occasional weekend assistance may be requested during exceptional circumstances, such as parental travel.

Additional babysitting opportunities may also be available outside standard working hours and would be paid separately at an enhanced overtime rate.
