A private client is seeking a versatile and dependable Housekeeper / Caretaker to look after a second home in Fontainebleau, Seine-et-Marne, approximately 60 km southeast of Paris.

This varied position combines household management, meal preparation and general property oversight. The successful candidate will ensure that the residence is impeccably maintained, well stocked and ready for the owners’ visits, which typically take place three days per week.

The family is looking for a hands-on professional who enjoys cooking, takes pride in maintaining a home and can manage responsibilities independently. With separate staff accommodation provided, this opportunity would suit someone seeking a long-term position in a private household with a varied workload and a clearly defined schedule.

Responsibilities

Housekeeping and Household Organisation

Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of the residence, including dusting, polishing and general interior care
Manage all laundry duties, from sorting and washing to ironing, folding and putting garments away
Monitor household supplies, including food, cleaning products and other essentials
Arrange grocery shopping and complete errands as required
Ensure the property is organised and prepared ahead of the owners’ arrival

Cooking and Table Service

Prepare meals when the owners are staying at the property, taking their preferences into account
Set the table and provide informal table service when required
Keep the kitchen clean, tidy and organised following meal preparation

Property Care and General Support

Monitor the overall condition of the residence and report maintenance issues promptly
Welcome contractors and coordinate access for scheduled maintenance or repair work
Receive deliveries and parcels on behalf of the household
Oversee basic property checks and help ensure the residence remains secure when the owners are away
Track household expenses and provide regular updates to the employer
Anticipate practical requirements and take initiative to keep the property running smoothly

Job Requirements

At least three years of professional experience working for private families
Fluent in French
Independent, resourceful and comfortable handling a broad range of household duties
Organised, energetic and attentive to detail
A genuine interest in cooking and preparing meals for the owners
Service-oriented, adaptable and able to respond to changing household requirements
Good communication skills and a professional attitude
Discreet and trustworthy, with absolute respect for the employer’s privacy
A driving licence would be an advantage

Working Conditions

Position: Full-time equivalent Housekeeper / Caretaker, part-time hours
Location: Fontainebleau, Seine-et-Marne (77), France
Contract: Permanent employment contract (CDI)
Working hours: 25 hours per week
Start date: As soon as possible, with a planned start in December
Schedule: To be agreed with the employer
Days off: Wednesday and Sunday
Accommodation: Independent staff accommodation provided

Salary

The position offers a monthly salary of €2,000 net, depending on the candidate’s experience and suitability.
