Job Description

A private high-end residence in Paris is seeking an experienced bilingual French–English House Manager (M/F) to take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of the household and to act as the primary point of contact for the family.

This role is suited to a hands-on, proactive, and highly organised professional capable of working alongside domestic staff, coordinating contractors, and ensuring the property operates seamlessly at all times. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, meticulous attention to detail, and a constant focus on service quality, presentation, and client satisfaction.

This is a live-in, permanent full-time position (CDI), available immediately.

Responsibilities

Household & Property Management

  • Assume full responsibility for the daily operations, presentation, and smooth functioning of the residence.
  • Maintain customised service standards in line with the Principal’s expectations.
  • Ensure the property is permanently maintained to a high standard and always ready to receive the family or guests.
  • Anticipate needs, respond to special requests, and manage ad-hoc tasks as required.

Staff & Operations Coordination

  • Manage, organise, and supervise all household staff, providing hands-on support when needed.
  • Coordinate closely with assistants, butlers, chefs, waitstaff, drivers, nannies, security, and family office representatives.
  • Prepare and implement cleaning schedules for housekeeping teams.
  • Inspect completed work and ensure consistent adherence to quality standards.
  • Oversee the upkeep of staff quarters.

Technical Systems & Maintenance

  • Supervise and monitor all property systems, including:

    • Security systems

    • Building Management Systems (BMS)

    • Lighting and window treatments

    • HVAC and climate control systems

  • Work closely with maintenance engineers and contractors to ensure optimal functioning at all times.
  • Conduct regular inspections and prepare periodic reports on property condition.
  • Liaise directly with contractors and immediately report or investigate any technical, security, or maintenance issues.
  • Ensure full knowledge and correct operation of all equipment within the residence.

Housekeeping, Presentation & Care of Assets

  • Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness and presentation throughout all areas of the home.
  • Ensure meticulous care of furnishings, artwork, antiques, and collectibles.
  • Oversee deep-cleaning schedules for bedrooms, corridors, and bathrooms, including full setup of amenities.
  • Monitor preventative measures during periods of absence (e.g. running taps, limescale prevention).
  • Supervise laundry operations, including washing, ironing, storage, and separation of family and staff items.
  • Ensure kitchens, laundry rooms, spa areas, gym, plunge pools, sauna, and steam rooms are maintained to the highest standards.

Guest Services & Concierge

  • Provide concierge-level support for visiting guests, including transportation and leisure arrangements.
  • Coordinate packing and unpacking for Principals and guests.
  • Ensure all rooms are inspected before and during stays to meet expected standards.

Inventory & Financial Management

  • Manage household inventories, manuals, and consumable stock levels.
  • Coordinate grocery and supply purchasing.
  • Prepare and review household budgets, invoices, and financial records.
  • Carry out monthly expense reporting, including credit card reconciliations.
  • Prepare accounting summaries following property visits.
  • Manage petty cash responsibly.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar House Manager role within private residences.
  • Absolute discretion, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Dynamic, proactive, and highly flexible.
  • Strong leadership and team-management skills.
  • Forward-thinking with strong anticipation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong familiarity with home automation systems (including Lutron) and MS Office.
  • Ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism.
  • Fluent in French and English.
  • Strong knowledge of French working processes.

Working Conditions

  • Accommodation: Live-in
  • Schedule:
    Outside family visits: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. (1-hour lunch break)
    During family presence (2–3 months per year): increased flexibility required
  • Location: Paris, France
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Trial period: 6 months

Salary

From €5,770 gross per month, depending on experience
