Job Description

An internationally minded, highly educated private family is seeking an exceptional Travelling Governess / Educational Nanny to oversee the educational development, daily activities and wellbeing of their three children.

The family divides its time between Seattle, USA, and Tashkent, Uzbekistan, with frequent international travel, particularly to the United Kingdom.

This is a long-term opportunity for a highly educated, energetic and inspiring childcare professional who enjoys working in an international private household.

The family is looking for considerably more than a traditional nanny. The successful candidate will act as a mentor, educator and positive role model, encouraging curiosity, independence and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.

The Children

  • Girl – 8 years old
  • Girl – 5 years old
  • Boy – 12 years old, currently attending boarding school in the UK

The position will primarily focus on the two younger girls, with occasional involvement with all three children.

Responsibilities

Education & Child Development

  • Take an active role in the children’s intellectual, social and emotional development.
  • Design creative and age-appropriate learning activities tailored to each child’s abilities and interests.
  • Encourage learning through play, exploration and real-world experiences.
  • Support homework, school assignments and educational projects.
  • Identify individual strengths, talents and areas of interest and recommend opportunities for further development.
  • Encourage confidence, independence, good manners and positive behaviour.
  • Develop stimulating routines that complement the children’s formal education.

Activities & Enrichment

  • Research and organise suitable extracurricular activities.
  • Arrange cultural experiences, museum visits, educational excursions and sporting activities.
  • Plan engaging outings that broaden the children’s knowledge and understanding of the world.
  • Encourage the children to explore new interests and develop their individual talents.
  • Accompany the children to activities, appointments and other commitments.
  • Maintain their routines and educational structure while travelling.

School & Tutor Liaison

  • Communicate effectively with teachers, tutors and other educational professionals.
  • Coordinate information between the family and the children’s schools.
  • Support the implementation of educational recommendations and learning plans.
  • Maintain awareness of academic progress and provide appropriate feedback to the parents.

International Travel

  • Travel extensively with the family and accompany the children internationally.
  • Ensure the children’s routines, education and activities remain consistent while abroad.
  • Research and arrange enriching experiences at different destinations.
  • Adapt educational activities to the family’s location and travel schedule.
  • Maintain a professional and discreet presence throughout all travel.

Children’s Organisation

  • Keep toys, books, educational materials and play areas tidy following activities.
  • Ensure the children’s personal belongings are organised and ready for school, activities and travel.
  • Help maintain consistent routines across different residences and destinations.

Occasional Personal Assistant Support

During school hours, the Governess may occasionally assist the mother with light personal assistant tasks, including:

  • Making restaurant and activity reservations.
  • Organising appointments or activities.
  • Conducting simple online research.
  • Assisting with occasional personal errands and administrative tasks.

No cooking, laundry or general housekeeping duties are required, as the family employs a fully staffed household team.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished career Governess or Educational Nanny with a genuine passion for education and child development.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years’ professional experience as a Governess, Educational Nanny or comparable educational childcare professional.
  • Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate learning.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Native English speakers are welcome; candidates with a natural British accent are particularly preferred.
  • Experience liaising with schools, tutors and educational professionals.
  • University degree preferred, particularly in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Early Childhood Education or a related discipline.
  • Additional languages are advantageous.
  • Strong physical fitness and an active lifestyle.
  • Willingness to relocate internationally and travel worldwide.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the necessary visas and work permits.
  • Commitment to a long-term role.

Working Conditions

  • Position: Travelling Governess / Educational Nanny
  • Locations: Seattle, USA & Tashkent, Uzbekistan
  • Travel: Extensive international travel, including regular trips to the UK
  • Contract: Permanent, long-term
  • Accommodation: Live-in, with private accommodation provided
  • Schedule: Generally 5–6 days per week

Typical Working Hours

The anticipated daily schedule is approximately:

  • 7:00 AM – 8:30 AM
  • 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Between approximately 8:30 AM and 3:00 PM, while the children are at school, the Governess will generally have downtime, with occasional light PA responsibilities for the mother.

Private accommodation will be provided either within the family compound or separately, depending on the location. Suitable private accommodation will also be arranged during international travel.
