Job Description

A private family is seeking a versatile and reliable Caretaker / House Employee to manage and maintain their secondary residence near Pont l’Évêque (Calvados, France).

This is a live-in position offering a high level of autonomy, where you will be responsible for the overall upkeep, organisation, and security of the property, as well as providing support during the owners’ stays.

The role is well suited to a hands-on professional who enjoys working in a quiet, rural environment and is comfortable combining household duties with basic property management.

Responsibilities

Ensure the general maintenance and cleanliness of the property.
Carry out housekeeping duties including cleaning, dusting, and floor care.
Manage laundry and linen, including washing and ironing.
Oversee household supplies and stock management.
Handle grocery shopping and daily provisioning.
Prepare balanced, home-style meals when the owners are present.
Set the table and assist with informal service.
Run errands such as post office, dry cleaning, and pharmacy visits.
Receive deliveries and supervise external service providers.
Provide pet care, including feeding and walking the dog.
Monitor and ensure the security of the property.
Maintain clear communication and reporting with the employer.

Job Requirements

Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a private household.
Autonomous, adaptable, and hands-on approach.
Enjoys working in a rural setting.
Interest or experience in cooking and meal preparation.
Strong organisation and time management skills.
Comfortable with pets.
Flexible and responsive when the family is in residence.
High level of discretion and confidentiality.
Good level of spoken French.
Valid driving licence required.

Working Conditions

Location: Near Pont l’Évêque (Calvados, France)
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Permanent, 35 hours per week
Schedule: To be defined with the family
Accommodation: Independent staff house provided (live-in position)

Salary

From €2,000 net per month, depending on experience
