For the past decade I have worked as a butler / house manager, managing high-end estates and anticipating the nuanced needs of primary owners.
During these roles I have strived to multitask and adapt my skills inline with the changing expectancies of each primary. For my last role I acted on behalf of an overseas primary with the sale of her UK estate. In this position my role organically morphed between butler / house manager - to luxury asset caretaker & transition manager—a role that enabled the primary to continue to enjoy the property on an adhoc basis, alongside protecting the property value, speeding up the sale, and providing a continuous "white-glove" experience for the owner (and buyer) throughout the sale process.
Anyone who has managed a multi-million-pound property sale knows the unique anxiety it brings to an owner. When a beautiful estate sits empty during a listing, it quickly loses its soul—and its viewing-ready perfection. Agents struggle to coordinate access, maintenance slips, and if the owner wants to drop in unexpectedly, the property rarely feels like home.
What I have learnt is that within the UHNW real estate market, empty properties are a massive liability, and poor communication during a multi-million-pound sale can completely break a deal.
I have also seen how agencies struggle to fill positions at estates and properties in transition as potential candidates are seeking long-term job and housing security which in these cases isn’t there.
