Companion/Housekeeper

Full-Time Companion/Housekeeper job (M/F) in Paris, France

Paris

Job Description

A warm, cultured, and independent retired couple residing in a quiet residential area of Western Paris is seeking an experienced Companion/Housekeeper to take responsibility for the daily management of their 19th-century family home, approximately 300 m², set within a 2,500 m² landscaped garden.

This role combines comprehensive household management with a supportive and attentive presence for Monsieur, in an environment that is respectful, intellectually engaging, and deeply human.

The aim is to ensure a smooth, safe, and comfortable daily routine for Monsieur, while allowing Madame—who maintains a very active lifestyle—to dedicate time to her personal and professional pursuits.

An excellent level of spoken French is essential. This is a full-time permanent position (CDI), available immediately.

Responsibilities

Household Management & Maintenance

  • Ensure the daily upkeep of the residence to a high standard: cleaning, tidying, dusting, vacuuming, floors, and bathrooms
  • Provide special care for refined materials and features, including Versailles parquet flooring, high ceilings, silverware, and a billiard table
  • Maintain the kitchen in immaculate condition after each meal, including dishwashing
  • Oversee full laundry management:
    • Regular changing of household linens (at least weekly or more as required)

    • Careful and precise ironing of Monsieur’s shirts and personal laundry

  • Prepare and reset guest bedrooms during family visits (approximately once per month)
  • Clean windows and maintain terraces
  • Receive, store, and organize groceries; monitor cleaning products and report replenishment needs
  • Run daily errands: dry cleaning drop-off and collection, parcel handling
  • Carry out minor household maintenance tasks (light bulb replacement, lightly blocked sinks or showers, etc.)

Presence & Support for Monsieur

  • Provide a daily, reassuring, and attentive presence for Monsieur, who is autonomous but experiences mild short-term memory loss
  • Accompany him on outings, walks, and medical appointments
  • Engage in meaningful and stimulating conversations, including discussions on current affairs, reading, and shared intellectual interests
(Monsieur is a scientist with a strong interest in astronomy)
  • Participate in intellectual activities and games such as Scrabble, Sudoku, and crosswords
  • Foster a warm, engaging atmosphere while respecting Monsieur’s pace and personal rhythm

Meals

  • Clear breakfast and lunch
  • Occasionally prepare simple meals or assist with meal preparation, according to the couple’s habits and preferences

Travel & Secondary Residence

  • Accompany the couple to their secondary residence in the Luberon:

    • Approximately one month in August

    • Several additional weeks during the year

  • An independent accommodation is provided on site for the Household Employee during stays in the Luberon

Job Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Household Employee in private residences of character, ideally of comparable standing
  • Strong appreciation for a stable, respectful, and refined family environment and long-term professional engagement
  • Absolute reliability, integrity, and loyalty
  • Excellent professional standards, discretion, and work ethic
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and methodical
  • Fully capable of working independently, with consistency and sound judgment
  • Impeccable personal presentation
  • Excellent spoken French, with the ability to hold cultured, structured, and thoughtful conversations
  • Genuine interest in general culture, intellectual and scientific subjects, and current affairs
  • Gentle, patient, caring, and discreet personality with a reassuring presence
  • Valid driving licence required (personal vehicle possible; a service vehicle may be provided)
  • Strong references required

Working Conditions

  • Contract: Permanent (CDI) – Full time
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
(Occasional weekend work possible depending on needs, with time off in lieu)
  • Primary location: Île-de-France – Western Paris
  • Accommodation: Live-out position in Île-de-France / Live-in accommodation provided during stays in the Luberon
  • Start date: Immediate
  • Annual leave: July (subject to adjustment); August is a working month
  • Benefit: Possibility of a service vehicle for work-related travel
  • Environment: Warm, respectful, and caring family setting
