Job Description

A private household in Park Ridge, NJ is seeking a compassionate and dependable Live-In Caregiver / Companion to support an independent 90-year-old woman. This role is initially a four-month temporary placement, covering a maternity leave. Should the family’s personal assistant not return, the position may transition into a long-term opportunity.

The successful candidate will provide companionship, oversight, and gentle daily support while respecting the client’s independence and personal routines. This position is ideal for a professional with prior senior care experience who is attentive, organized, and calm in their approach.

Responsibilities

Daily Care & Companionship

Provide consistent presence, supervision, and companionship throughout the day.
Recognize and respond appropriately to the needs of an elderly individual, particularly during periods of illness or recovery.
Support the client’s independence while offering reassurance and assistance as needed.
Assist with light household tasks directly related to the client (a full-time housekeeper is in place).

Meals & Household Support

Prepare daily meals, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Follow simple or pre-provided recipes with confidence.
Serve dinner at 7:00 p.m.; the client prefers to dine independently.
Tidy the kitchen after dinner and run the dishwasher.
Provide light housekeeping for the client, including laundry support and making the bed daily.

Errands & Appointments

Drive the client using her personal vehicle.
Handle errands such as grocery shopping, food orders, FreshDirect deliveries, and Amazon returns.
Accompany the client to medical appointments and assist with scheduling and logistics.

Job Requirements

Previous experience in senior care or companion roles.
Warm, patient, reliable, and attentive demeanor.
Ability to support an elderly individual while fully respecting independence and personal space.
Comfortable with light household responsibilities related to the client.
Confident cook, able to follow recipes and instructions.
Strong driving skills and comfort using the client’s car.
Organized, responsible, and detail-oriented.

Typical Daily Schedule

9:00 a.m.: Start of day and breakfast preparation.
Client showers and dresses independently, joining downstairs by 9:30 a.m.
Lunch preparation and midday companionship.
Afternoon activities include online bridge (approximately two hours).
Personal trainer visits three times per week.
7:00 p.m.: Dinner service.
After dinner cleanup, the caregiver is free for the evening.

Working Conditions

Location: Park Ridge, New Jersey.
Schedule: Full-time, live-in position.
Start date: January 5, 2026.
Duration: Four-month temporary role with potential for permanence.

Salary

USD $40–$50 per hour, depending on experience.
