ROTA Nanny

Rota Nanny job (M/F) in San Francisco, California, USA

San Francisco

Job Description

A welcoming private family based in Cole Valley, San Francisco is seeking an experienced and dedicated ROTA Nanny to join their established household team on a long-term basis.

The family has three children: a newborn, a 1.5-year-old toddler, and a 9-year-old child. They are looking for a highly capable childcare professional who is confident caring for children at different developmental stages and who enjoys working as part of a structured, collaborative household team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a career nanny who values continuity, professionalism, and teamwork. The successful candidate will work alongside another ROTA Nanny, following a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation, ensuring the children receive consistent, attentive care throughout the year.

The ideal candidate will be warm and nurturing while also being organised, proactive, safety-conscious, and comfortable taking responsibility for the children’s daily routines.

Responsibilities

Comprehensive Childcare

  • Provide attentive, age-appropriate care for three children across newborn, toddler, and school-age stages.
  • Establish a warm, engaging, and reassuring environment for the children.
  • Respond thoughtfully to each child’s individual personality, routine, developmental stage, and needs.
  • Support healthy daily routines while maintaining a calm and organised household environment.

Newborn & Toddler Care

  • Manage feeding, bottles, naps, and age-appropriate daily routines for the younger children.
  • Prepare bottles and children’s meals as required.
  • Take the younger children outdoors for walks, park visits, and age-appropriate activities.
  • Encourage positive developmental and social experiences through play and interaction.
  • Maintain children’s belongings, equipment, and spaces in an organised condition.

School-Age Support

  • Coordinate school drop-offs and collections for the 9-year-old.
  • Safely transport the child to extracurricular activities and appointments.
  • Support homework, activities, play, and age-appropriate responsibilities when required.
  • Maintain awareness of the child’s school and activity schedule.

Children’s Meals & Nutrition

  • Prepare fresh, simple, and nutritious meals and snacks for the children.
  • Maintain awareness of individual preferences and dietary requirements.
  • Keep children’s food areas clean, organised, and properly stocked.
  • Encourage healthy and positive mealtime routines.

ROTA Teamwork & Handover

  • Work closely with the other ROTA Nanny to provide seamless continuity of care.
  • Complete clear and detailed handovers at the beginning and end of each rotation.
  • Maintain appropriate daily records and communicate important information regarding routines, activities, meals, and the children’s wellbeing.
  • Build a positive and professional relationship with the parents and wider household team.
  • Ensure the children’s routines remain consistent between rotations.

Children’s Household Support

The nanny will work alongside the family’s existing household staff and may assist with light child-related tasks, including:

  • Tidying toys and children’s play areas.
  • Managing children’s laundry.
  • Organising bedrooms and personal belongings.
  • Loading and unloading the dishwasher when appropriate.
  • Keeping children’s spaces clean, safe, and orderly.

This is not a general housekeeping position; the focus remains firmly on the children’s care and wellbeing.

Family Activities & Travel

  • Support the parents during weekend outings and family activities.
  • Travel with the family within the United States and internationally.
  • Be prepared for extended travel periods, including potentially up to 10 weeks during the summer and during school holidays.
  • Maintain the same high standard of childcare while travelling.
  • Adapt confidently to different environments, schedules, and destinations.

Job Requirements

The family is seeking a professional who sees childcare as a long-term career and can become a trusted member of their household team.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Several years of professional nanny experience, with evidence of long-term placements of approximately 2–3 years or more.
  • Strong newborn and infant childcare experience.
  • Confidence caring for toddlers and school-aged children.
  • Excellent understanding of age-appropriate routines and developmental needs.
  • A warm, patient, and nurturing personality.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to work harmoniously with parents and other household staff.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to recognise what needs to be done without constant direction.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • A genuine commitment to children’s safety and wellbeing.
  • A valid driver’s licence and clean driving record.
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for domestic and international travel.
  • A polished, reliable, and professional approach to private household service.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working within a fully staffed home and understand the importance of discretion, communication, consistency, and teamwork.

  • Position: ROTA Nanny
  • Schedule: Full-Time | 7 Days On / 7 Days Off
  • Start Date: Flexible
  • Travel: Domestic and international family travel required
