Job Description

Morgan & Mallet International is seeking a dedicated Property Caretaker for a private estate located near Carcassonne, in the South of France.

This is a full-time, live-in position within a peaceful and characterful property composed of a main residence and several outbuildings. The owners stay at the property periodically and expect the estate to be maintained to a high standard at all times, ready for their arrival.

This role is ideal for a reliable, hands-on professional looking for a long-term opportunity in a quiet environment.

Responsibilities

Property Oversight & Security

Ensure a continuous on-site presence and act as the main point of contact for the property
Monitor the estate and maintain a secure environment at all times
Remain reachable for the owners and respond to occasional requests

Maintenance & Technical Upkeep

Handle day-to-day maintenance of the main house and outbuildings
Carry out minor repairs and basic technical tasks
Coordinate with external contractors when required and oversee interventions
Ensure all equipment and installations are functioning properly

Grounds & Outdoor Areas

Maintain gardens, terraces, courtyards, and access areas
Manage watering, general upkeep, and seasonal maintenance
Ensure the exterior of the property remains clean, organised, and welcoming

Preparation for Owner Stays

Prepare the property before each visit to ensure it is fully ready
Carry out cleaning, organisation, and final checks throughout the house
Anticipate needs so that the property is immediately functional and comfortable

Job Requirements

The family is looking for a practical, independent, and trustworthy candidate:

Previous experience in property caretaking or estate maintenance
Strong practical skills in DIY, maintenance, and gardening
Autonomous, proactive, and able to take initiative
Reliable and discreet, with a strong sense of responsibility
Comfortable using basic communication tools (phone, WhatsApp)
Driving licence appreciated
Looking for a long-term position with on-site residence

Working Conditions

Location: Near Carcassonne (Aude), South of France
Contract: Permanent full-time (CDI)
Accommodation: Independent 100 m² housing on-site
Start date: May – June 2025

Salary

€2,000 net per month
