Private Driver job (M/F) in Manhattan, New York City, USA

New York

Job Description

An established private family residing on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City, is looking to appoint an accomplished Private Chauffeur to manage the family’s transportation requirements and provide a consistently safe, discreet, and professional driving service.

The family is seeking a highly dependable individual with an exceptional driving record and preferably a professional background in law enforcement, the military, executive protection, or private security. The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting both adults and children, maintaining the family’s vehicles, and coordinating daily journeys with precision and efficiency.

This position requires someone who combines advanced driving abilities with sound judgement, situational awareness, and an excellent understanding of personal security. Professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to remain composed in demanding traffic and weather conditions are essential.

The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable providing executive transportation, managing school runs, and handling airport transfers, while ensuring the family’s safety and comfort at all times.

Responsibilities

Private transportation and passenger safety

  • Provide reliable, punctual, and comfortable transportation for family members to business engagements, schools, appointments, extracurricular activities, and social commitments.
  • Manage daily journeys, including school drop-offs and collections, airport transfers, and other scheduled transportation requirements.
  • Drive responsibly in urban, suburban, and highway environments, adapting to changing road and weather conditions.
  • Demonstrate advanced awareness of potential road hazards and apply defensive driving techniques at all times.
  • Maintain strict compliance with traffic regulations, speed restrictions, and safe driving practices.
  • Refrain from using mobile devices while driving and maintain full attention on the road.
  • Install, inspect, and secure age-appropriate child safety seats and booster seats correctly.
  • Provide children with a calm, reassuring, and courteous experience while following the parents’ instructions and household transportation policies.
  • Adjust routes and departure times according to traffic conditions, weather forecasts, and appointment schedules.

Vehicle maintenance and presentation

  • Keep all assigned vehicles exceptionally clean, both internally and externally, ensuring they are always presentable and ready for use.
  • Carry out routine vehicle inspections, checking fuel or battery levels, tyre condition, pressure, lighting, and essential safety equipment.
  • Ensure that servicing and preventative maintenance are completed on schedule, including oil changes, brake inspections, fluid checks, and seasonal tyre replacements.
  • Coordinate vehicle servicing, repairs, inspections, and other appointments with authorised garages and service providers.
  • Maintain accurate written records of vehicle maintenance, insurance, registration, and inspection requirements.
  • Monitor vehicle condition and immediately report any mechanical concerns, warning indicators, damage, or maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure each vehicle is appropriately equipped with passenger essentials, including bottled water, tissues, charging cables, umbrellas, and children’s necessities.

Scheduling and household coordination

  • Coordinate daily transportation arrangements through the family’s shared calendar or designated scheduling application.
  • Confirm pickup and drop-off requirements in advance and maintain clear communication regarding any schedule changes.
  • Research and plan routes ahead of time, allowing sufficient flexibility for traffic, security considerations, and unexpected delays.
  • Liaise with family members and relevant household staff to ensure transportation arrangements run smoothly.
  • Maintain complete confidentiality concerning the family’s movements, appointments, visitors, business activities, and personal conversations.
  • Remain available for occasional evening assignments, weekend commitments, and travel-related transportation with reasonable advance notice.

Job Requirements

  • Previous professional experience as a Private Chauffeur, Executive Driver, Security Driver, or comparable position.
  • Background in law enforcement, military service, private security, or another public service profession is strongly preferred.
  • Outstanding driving history covering approximately seven to ten years, with no DUI convictions, at-fault accidents, or moving violations.
  • Valid driving licence in good standing and eligibility to work legally in the United States.
  • Ability to obtain coverage under the family’s automobile insurance policy.
  • Confident driving skills across city streets, highways, and rural routes, including challenging winter conditions such as snow, ice, heavy rain, and reduced visibility.
  • Defensive driving or advanced vehicle control training, with relevant certifications strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience transporting children safely and professionally is an advantage.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain both within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Excellent spoken English and good familiarity with digital calendars, navigation systems, and scheduling applications.
  • Professional appearance, courteous manner, sound judgement, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Non-smoker with a strong sense of personal responsibility and punctuality.
  • Exceptional discretion and integrity, with willingness to sign a non-disclosure agreement.
  • Ability to provide outstanding professional references from previous private household, executive transportation, or chauffeur positions.
  • Willingness to undergo comprehensive criminal background screening, drug testing, and motor vehicle record verification.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position based on the Upper East Side, Manhattan, New York City.
  • Standard working schedule: Monday to Friday, approximately 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
  • Flexibility required for occasional evening, weekend, and travel-related assignments, arranged in advance.
  • Overtime arrangements and holiday working expectations to be agreed upon in writing.
  • Health insurance benefits provided.
  • Paid federal holidays, with compensation at twice the regular hourly rate when working on designated federal holidays.
  • Two weeks of paid annual vacation.
  • Employment subject to satisfactory criminal background checks, drug screening, and a seven-to-ten-year driving record review.
  • NDA and professional references required.
  • Candidates must have reliable personal transportation to commute to and from the family’s residence at the beginning and end of each shift.
