Job Description

A private family based in Victoria, Australia is seeking a Native French-speaking Governess with a strong academic background to join their household in a hybrid role combining education and childcare support.

This position is designed for a highly adaptable professional who can provide structured tutoring while also stepping into a nanny-style role when needed, particularly during travel and school holidays.

The role offers a balanced mix of learning support, outdoor engagement, and flexible childcare, making it ideal for someone who enjoys an active lifestyle and thrives in a dynamic family environment.

Responsibilities

Academic & Educational Support

Provide tailored tutoring in French and/or English, aligned with the child’s curriculum
Encourage independent learning and academic confidence
Support homework, assignments, and school organisation
Adjust teaching methods based on the child’s needs and learning style

Childcare Support

Deliver hands-on childcare alongside educational duties
Maintain daily structure, routines, and supervision
Take a more child-focused role during school holidays and travel periods

Travel & Lifestyle Support

Accompany the family during holiday periods and travel
Ensure continuity in education and routine while abroad
Organise and participate in outdoor and active activities
Remain calm, structured, and proactive in changing environments

Job Requirements

Native French speaker (essential)
Strong academic background with teaching or tutoring experience
Highly flexible, adaptable, and comfortable with travel
Naturally active and outdoors-oriented (essential)
Calm, confident, and able to set clear boundaries
Well-organised, proactive, and dependable
Driving licence required (van driving essential)
Previous experience in a similar private household role preferred

Working Conditions

Live-in position with private bedroom and bathroom
Accommodation located approximately 10 minutes from the family home, shared only with the child
Location: Victoria, Australia
Start date: May 2026

Working Hours:

48 hours per week during school term
Full-time schedule during travel and school holidays

Salary

AUD 6,800 per month
