Full-time Private Butler (M/F) job offer in Santa Monica, Los Angeles California, US

Our ultra-high-net-worth client is seeking a highly trained, experienced Modern  Butler (M/F) to oversee the daily operations of their home in LA while delivering hands-on, elevated personal service.
The home will be used to entertain family and friends. They value long-term stability, with the intention of establishing a 20-year tenure for the right candidate, who will be an integral part of our home.
The position requires a unique combination of British-style formality, structure, and decorum, alongside Italian warmth and a passion for hospitality.
We are looking for candidates with a broad, global perspective and a diverse international outlook, ideally from outside the U.S.
U.S. citizens with European experience are encouraged, we are also open to sponsoring visas for candidates from Europe or the UK if needed.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, manage and oversee all household operations, establishing a calm, efficient and discreet atmosphere.
  • Manage and maintain the home’s organizational systems, using modern household management technology to track inventory, schedules, responsibilities, and staff training.
  • Design and implement job descriptions, checklists, and operational standards for all household roles, ensuring smooth daily operations.
  • Act as a gatekeeper to the household, receiving visitors, overseeing service providers, and ensuring security and privacy.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise household staff, including gardeners, security, pool maintenance, caterers, and other service providers.
  • Establish a chain of command, maintain control over staff concerns, and ensure that the household staff functions cohesively with minimal direct contact with the family.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all staff questions, issues, and personal matters, handling them with discretion and respect for privacy.
  • Provide hands-on service, including personal assistance, cooking, silver tray service, and occasional chauffeur responsibilities.
  • Oversee and execute household entertaining, managing dining presentation, table setting, and bar preparation with elegance and refinement.
  • Prepare and serve Mediterranean/Italian-inspired, seasonal cuisine sourced from local Farmer’s Markets and the Kitchen Garden.
  • Maintain the family’s art collection, fine furniture, wardrobes, wine collection, and vehicles.

Personal and Travel Assistance:

  • Arrange travel accommodations, reservations, and restaurant bookings with attention to detail and cultural awareness.
  • Maintain the family’s wardrobes, ensuring all clothing is impeccably organized, cleaned, and ready for any occasion or travel.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a top-tier household; formal butler training from a recognized institution is essential.
  • We are looking for candidates with a broad, global perspective and a diverse international outlook, ideally from outside the U.S.
  • U.S. citizens with European experience are encouraged, we are also open to sponsoring visas for candidates from Europe or the UK if needed.
  • Culinary training or extensive experience with Mediterranean cuisine is highly preferred.
  • Maturity, emotional intelligence, and people skills are crucial.
  • Proficient in household management software, inventory tracking, and other modern household technology.
  • Warm, professional, and discreet, with a positive demeanor.
  • Exhibits high emotional intelligence, strong leadership, and the ability to maintain a peaceful, dignified atmosphere.
  • Security service skills, military training, or multilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Pet friendly – dog lover, and comfortable with children and family life.

Work conditions

  • Full-Time.
  • Competitive salary, based on experience and performance, with benefits, vacation, and relocation support as needed.
  • (highly qualified candidates – $150K – $200K annual salary based on experience).
  • Additional incentives, including annual performance bonuses, longevity bonuses, and professional development support, available for exemplary service.
