Dog Carer

Dog Carer job (M/F) in London, United Kingdom

London

Job Description

A private family based in Chelsea, London, is looking for a compassionate and reliable Dog Carer to provide dedicated daily care for their 2.5-year-old male rescue dog, originally from Hong Kong.

Weighing approximately 27kg, the dog is affectionate and enjoys regular outdoor exercise and human companionship. As he experiences separation anxiety and can be reactive around other dogs, he requires a patient and confident professional who understands canine behaviour and can help him feel safe and settled.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for maintaining a consistent routine, providing stimulating walks and ensuring the dog receives attentive care throughout the day. Previous experience with rescue dogs and separation anxiety is particularly important.

This permanent part-time opportunity offers a guaranteed minimum of 20–25 hours per week, with additional hours available for evening and weekend support. An immediate start is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Take the dog on extended morning walks, providing appropriate exercise and opportunities for outdoor exploration.
  • Provide afternoon care and companionship, generally between 12pm and 6pm or 7pm.
  • Support the management of separation anxiety through consistent routines, exercise and suitable activities.
  • Confidently handle the dog during walks, using the microchipped tracking device provided by the family.
  • Monitor the dog’s behaviour, emotional wellbeing and interactions with other dogs, paying particular attention to signs of reactivity.
  • Minimise periods spent alone by providing attentive companionship and reassurance.
  • Maintain a structured daily routine to encourage confidence and help reduce anxiety.
  • Provide occasional additional care during evenings and weekends when requested.

Job Requirements

  • Previous hands-on experience caring for dogs, ideally including rescue dogs or animals with separation anxiety.
  • Confidence handling medium-to-large dogs, with the physical ability to manage a 27kg dog on extended walks.
  • Good understanding of canine behaviour, anxiety and reactivity.
  • Calm, patient and reassuring approach, with the ability to respond appropriately to the dog’s individual needs.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for animal welfare and a strong commitment to providing attentive care.
  • Dependable, organised and consistent, with a responsible attitude towards the dog’s safety.
  • Formal qualifications in animal care are not essential.
  • A driving licence would be advantageous but is not required.
  • Spanish or French language skills would be beneficial but are not essential.

Working Conditions

  • Location: Chelsea, London SW6
  • Position: Permanent, part-time
  • Guaranteed hours: Minimum of 20–25 hours per week
  • Typical schedule:
    • Monday and Wednesday: 7am–11am
    • Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 12pm–6pm or 7pm
  • Additional hours: Opportunities for evening and weekend care, with overtime available.
  • Start date: As soon as possible

Salary

Competitive remuneration, commensurate with experience.
