Butler/House Manager

Butler/House Manager job (M/F) in Verbier, Switzerland

Verbier

Job Description

A private principal is seeking an exceptionally versatile and proactive Butler / House Manager to join the team at a newly built luxury chalet in Verbier, Switzerland.

This is a hands-on position for an experienced private-service professional who can combine polished Butler and Front of House skills with practical chalet management and confident family-style cooking.

The principal spends approximately three to four months per year in Verbier and travels extensively throughout the year. The successful candidate will therefore have the opportunity to travel internationally, including to London, Ibiza and the Caribbean, sometimes for several weeks at a time.

The household environment is warm, relaxed and informal, but the ability to transition seamlessly into more formal service when required is essential. The role would particularly suit a candidate from a luxury superyacht or high-end private household background, where versatility, guest service, housekeeping oversight and attention to detail are fundamental.

Responsibilities

Butler & Front of House

  • Deliver warm, discreet and highly attentive service to the principal and guests.
  • Manage day-to-day Front of House operations throughout the chalet.
  • Welcome guests and ensure they receive a relaxed, polished and personalised experience.
  • Set and prepare tables for both informal family meals and more formal occasions.
  • Provide professional food and beverage service, including drinks and bar service.
  • Adapt service style according to the occasion, from casual family gatherings to more formal entertaining.

Chalet & Property Management

  • Take day-to-day responsibility for the smooth running of the chalet while the principal is in Verbier.
  • Act as the primary household contact for local suppliers, contractors and external service providers.
  • Coordinate external cleaning teams and monitor standards of work.
  • Liaise with maintenance professionals and arrange repairs or servicing when required.
  • Carry out minor practical maintenance and household tasks when appropriate.
  • Ensure the chalet is consistently clean, organised, well presented and ready for the principal and guests.

Family Cooking

  • Prepare fresh, nutritious and high-quality family-style meals for the principal and guests.
  • Take responsibility for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks as required.
  • Prepare healthy, protein-focused meals using fresh ingredients.
  • Plan meals around the principal’s preferences and schedule.
  • Maintain excellent standards of kitchen organisation, cleanliness and food hygiene.
  • Cooking should be confident and varied rather than fine-dining focused; Michelin-level culinary experience is not required.

Entertaining & Guest Support

  • Take responsibility for Front of House during private dinners, gatherings and informal events.
  • Comfortably host and serve groups ranging from approximately 3 to 12 guests.
  • Support spontaneous dinner parties, barbecues and other social occasions.
  • Ensure guests are looked after throughout their stay with a proactive and unobtrusive approach.
  • Anticipate requirements and respond positively to last-minute changes.

Provisioning & Inventory

  • Manage household and kitchen provisions.
  • Carry out grocery shopping and local errands.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels across the chalet.
  • Monitor household and kitchen inventory and arrange replenishment when required.
  • Keep living, dining and kitchen areas immaculate and presentation-ready.

International Travel

  • Travel with the principal during selected periods throughout the year.
  • Assignments may include London, Ibiza and destinations in the Caribbean.
  • Remain flexible and adaptable when travelling and working in different environments.
  • Provide the same high standard of service while away from the principal’s main residence.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will be an experienced luxury-service professional who enjoys a varied, hands-on position and is equally comfortable serving guests, managing a property or preparing a family meal.

Essential requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Butler, House Manager, Yacht Service Professional or similar high-end private-service role.
  • Experience within a luxury private residence, estate, chalet or superyacht.
  • Superyacht experience is strongly preferred, particularly Sole Steward(ess), Butler or senior yacht service backgrounds.
  • Fluent spoken English.
  • Conversational French is highly advantageous, particularly for dealing with local suppliers, contractors and reservations.
  • Confident cooking ability, with experience preparing fresh, healthy and family-style meals.
  • Valid driving licence and clean driving record.
  • Clean criminal background check.
  • Excellent and verifiable professional references.
  • Legally entitled to work in Switzerland through an EU/EFTA passport or valid Swiss work permit.
  • Able to travel internationally without restrictions.

Personal Qualities

The successful candidate will be:

  • Highly proactive and naturally service-oriented.
  • Energetic, positive and approachable.
  • Discreet and respectful of the principal’s privacy.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership.
  • Practical and solution-oriented.
  • Flexible when plans or schedules change at short notice.
  • Confident dealing with guests, contractors and suppliers.
  • Comfortable moving between formal service and a relaxed family environment.
  • Naturally attentive to detail without being overly formal or rigid.

Working Conditions

  • Position: Full-time, permanent
  • Location: Verbier, Valais, Switzerland
  • Travel: London, Ibiza, Caribbean and other international destinations
  • Start date: Late October / early November 2026
  • Working hours: Approximately 40–50 hours per week as a standard, with considerable flexibility during periods of residence and travel
  • Time off: Additional hours during busy periods compensated through generous time off in lieu during quieter periods
  • Accommodation: Fully paid private flat rented by the principal near the chalet
  • Vehicle: Work car provided for local duties

Salary

CHF 85,000–105,000 gross per year, paid as a fixed Swiss monthly salary
