Governess

Governess job (M/F) in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Abu Dhabi

Job Description

An international family based in Abu Dhabi, UAE is looking to appoint a highly experienced Governess to oversee the educational and personal development of their five children.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated education professional with previous experience working in prestigious private households. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the children’s academic success while encouraging confidence, independence, strong values, and social development.

The children range in age from 4 to 10 years old and all attend schools following the British Curriculum. Although the family employs experienced nannies and household staff to assist with daily care, they are seeking a Governess who can take ownership of the children’s learning, after-school routines, and overall developmental progress.

The role combines educational guidance with hands-on childcare support whenever required, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building long-term relationships with children and becoming a trusted member of a fully staffed household.

  • Guide the children’s academic progress in accordance with the British Curriculum.
  • Assist with homework, revision, reading, writing, mathematics, and examination preparation.
  • Create engaging educational activities that stimulate curiosity and encourage independent learning.
  • Develop structured after-school routines that balance study, recreation, and personal development.
  • Promote confidence, responsibility, respect, good manners, and positive behaviour.
  • Encourage a lifelong love of books, education, and creative thinking.
  • Provide emotional support while adapting your approach to each child’s personality and learning style.
  • Organise enriching activities based on the children’s interests, including music, sports, arts and crafts, educational games, outdoor adventures, and travel experiences.
  • Supervise the younger twins more closely while encouraging independence in the older children.
  • Support daily routines and provide practical childcare assistance whenever necessary.
  • Work closely with parents, nannies, and household staff to ensure consistency and excellent communication.
  • Travel internationally with the family during school holidays when required.

Job Requirements

The ideal applicant will possess:

  • A British or European passport.
  • Native or fluent English language skills.
  • A degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, or a related discipline (preferred).
  • Significant experience working as a Governess within private households.
  • Strong knowledge of the British educational system.
  • Excellent tutoring and teaching abilities across primary school subjects.
  • Experience preparing children for school assessments and examinations.
  • A calm, caring, patient, and professional approach.
  • Outstanding organisational and communication skills.
  • Absolute discretion and respect for confidentiality.
  • The ability to integrate into an established household team.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and a proactive attitude.
  • Availability to travel internationally.
  • Non-smoker.
